A Fiery Plate at Circuit Road: Veggie Hokkien Mee, Old Flame Chili, and Satay on the Side

From one of our friend when we shared our Old Flame sample.....
I wasn’t planning for a full-on food adventure that night—just a simple dinner at Circuit Road. But it turned out to be one of the most satisfying meals I’ve had in a while.
I started at Zi Zai Vegetarian Yong Tau Foo, a low-key but solid spot. Their vegetarian Hokkien mee was calling my name from the wok station. No shortcuts here—the noodles were infused with that deep wok hei, full of earthy mushrooms, crunchy veggies, and just enough sauce to pull everything together. Honestly, one of the better meatless versions I’ve had. It didn’t try to mimic seafood—it just owned its own flavour profile, and it worked.
But the real magic happened when I added a spoonful of Old Flame chili from Shy Humble Chefs. I’d brought it along (yes, I’m that person), and it absolutely transformed the dish. This chili isn’t just hot—it’s got depth, umami, and a kind of confident burn that lingers just enough to make you go back for more. Paired with the noodles, it was like a proper conversation—warm, layered, and just a bit spicy.
After that, I swung by Victor Veggie nearby for their vegetarian satay—still one of my favourite street-style snacks. The smoky skewers and peanut sauce made a great finisher to the meal. A little messy, a lot nostalgic.
So yeah, what started as a regular evening ended up being something more. A plate of Hokkien mee, a chili that knew how to make itself known, and satay that hit just right. No meat, no regrets.
